Peter was born in 1955 in Greenwich to Frederick Price and Helen Price (nee Archer). He initially lived at 45 Mauritius Road, which was a small terraced three bedroom house. The main bedroom was for his parents, the girls had the back bedroom and Peter shared the small box room with his brothers. They were all small rooms and there was no bathroom. Downstairs had a front room, a small backroom, and a passageway leading to the kitchen and scullery. The toilet was an outside toilet. There was a small garden, mainly concrete, with a shed built by his father. Peter's grandparents and great-grandparents lived in a similar house at 35 Mauritius Road. When Peter was younger he would always go along to see them. His granparents were still working at that time, so when he came home from school, rather than playing out with all the other kids, he would go and sit with his great-grandparents. He would do various things to help them, such as go to the corner shop, chop firewood, and sometimes take washing to the launderette. They would always make him a cup of tea and sometimes they would cook him something to eat. They would sit and talk to him, about things they had done in the past and during the war. Peter always got on really well with both great-grandparents and grandparents. When Peter was about eleven his great-grandfathers health rapidly went downhill and he spent a long time in hospital, where he eventually died. When Peter's cousin Irene became engaged to Rodney, he was given a room to stay in. Peter's grandmother always told Peter that when Rodney moved out and got married, that he could have the room, which made sense as he spent so much time there anyway. Peter even used to take his homework and do it there. If his grandparents were out he would just sit with his great grandmother. He would also stay overnight almost every day, and kept some of his possessions there. Eventually Peter moved in there, with his own room, and he stayed there until he got his own flat, when he got married for the first time.
