Peter passed Part II New Entry Course (marks obtained 81/100). 4th February 1972 he was recommended for 3 months accelerated advancement and became J.A.CK1 on 27th January 1972 When Peter took part in the competition at Hotelympia officials initially tried to stop him taking part but in the end he decided to do it anyway! He told me he was very nervous at the beginning, especially as one of the first jobs he needed to do was to prepare the oranges. This is a very tricky job involving a very sharp knife, and not easy to do when your hands are shaking! He had to leave that job and go back to it later when he was slightly calmer! However despite this slight change to his prepared scheduled he soon got back on track and ended up with the complete meal ready in time. Peter feels that part of the reason he won first prize was down to his precise timing and the fact that all of his dishes were ready and dished up right at the last minute, so having made use of every second. Peter took me to see Hotelympia in 2008 so I could see what the competitions were like, although the challenge cup he won is no longer awarded.
